Kershaw Gardens, North Rockhampton


Rockhampton’s Kershaw Gardens were officially opened in September 1988 as part of a project celebrating the Australian Bicentenary. Initial development of the gardens commenced in 1976, on an old land fill reclamation area. Today, the Gardens represent a natural Australian bush environment, in contrast to the more formal style of traditional Botanic Gardens. These magnificent gardens stretch for 1km along the Bruce Highway and provide an attractive, peaceful setting within the heart of Rockhampton.

Byfield is about 40km. north of Yeppoon on a sealed and well maintained road, the area has a higher rainfall than the rest of the coast, this makes it markedly different with rainforests dissected by numerous fresh water streams, the largest of which is Waterpark Creek.

Well known Australian golf course designer, Al Howard has accounted for all variables with this course, even taking into account the prevailing south-easterly wind. It is a course designed to be played from the fairways, so those who have issues with hitting it straight – bring a few extra balls.

Although visitor friendly from the yellow tees, off the blue tees, the course length, water hazards and well placed bunkers, not to mention low trees and thick grass in the rough, set it up as a players’ course. For those who like to back themselves, there are many challenges.
